What is AES-256?

AES-256 (Advanced Encryption Standard with 256-bit key) is one of the most secure encryption algorithms available today. It's the same encryption standard used by banks, governments, and military organizations worldwide to protect their most sensitive data.

With AES-256, your backup files are transformed into unreadable data that can only be decrypted with your unique passphrase. Even with the most powerful supercomputers, breaking AES-256 encryption through brute force would take billions of years.

Military-Grade Standard

The same encryption used by the U.S. government to protect classified information.

Trusted by Banks

Financial institutions rely on AES-256 to secure transactions and customer data.

Virtually Uncrackable

Brute-forcing a 256-bit key would take longer than the age of the universe.

Industry Standard

Approved by NIST and used worldwide as the gold standard for data encryption.

Why Encrypt Your Backups?

Your WordPress backups contain everything: customer data, order history, user credentials, private content, and more. Without encryption, anyone who gains access to your backup files can read all of this sensitive information.

Protect Customer Data

WooCommerce orders, user profiles, and payment information stay private and secure.

Meet Compliance Requirements

GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI-DSS all recommend or require encryption of stored data.

Safe Cloud Storage

Even if your cloud provider is breached, encrypted backups remain unreadable.

Peace of Mind

Know that your backups are protected no matter where they're stored or who might access them.

How It Works

Enabling encryption in SiteVault Pro is straightforward. Once configured, all your backups are automatically encrypted without any extra steps required.

Set Your Encryption Passphrase

Choose a strong, memorable passphrase in your SiteVault Pro settings. This passphrase is used to generate your unique encryption key. We recommend using a combination of words, numbers, and symbols.

Backups Are Automatically Encrypted

Once enabled, every backup you create is automatically encrypted with AES-256 before being saved to your server or uploaded to cloud storage. There's nothing extra you need to do.

Enter Passphrase to Restore

When you need to restore a backup, simply enter your passphrase. SiteVault Pro will decrypt the backup and restore your site. Without the correct passphrase, the backup cannot be decrypted.

Zero-Knowledge Security

Your passphrase is never stored on our servers or transmitted anywhere. We have zero knowledge of your encryption key, which means only you can decrypt your backups. Not even we can access your encrypted data.

Important: Keep Your Passphrase Safe

Your encryption passphrase is the only way to decrypt your backups. If you lose your passphrase, your encrypted backups cannot be recovered. There is no "forgot password" option because we never store your passphrase.

We strongly recommend:

1. Write down your passphrase and store it in a secure location (not on your website server).

2. Consider using a password manager to securely store your passphrase.

3. Keep a copy in a physical safe or safety deposit box for critical sites.
